Reggae Boyz beat Panama to secure 3rd place in Concacaf Nations League

This historic win marks the first time a Caribbean team has clinched a podium finish in the Concacaf Nations League Finals. It also represents Jamaica’s fourth victory over Panama in history and their first since the quarterfinals of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.

The match started quietly, but excitement surged in the 19th minute when Jamaica’s forward, Shamar Nicholson, launched two fierce attempts on goal, only to be thwarted first by Panama’s goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera and then by a clearance off the goal-line.

Mosquera showcased his agility once more in the 29th minute, diving to his right to deflect a Demarai Gray shot to safety.

In the 41st minute, Jamaica finally broke the deadlock with a scorching strike from outside the box by Lembikisa. After receiving a pass, Lembikisa executed a precise cut to his left before rifling the ball into the top left corner of the net, giving Jamaica a 1-0 lead. This marked Lembikisa’s debut goal for Jamaica.

As halftime approached, Panama attempted to level the score, but Jamaica’s goalkeeper Andre Blake denied Jose Rodriguez’s attempt.

Jamaica didn’t sit back in the second half; instead, they pressed forward in search of another goal. In the 60th minute, a chip from Damion Lowe ricocheted off the crossbar, narrowly missing a second goal for Jamaica.

Despite Panama’s efforts to mount a comeback, Jamaica’s midfield and defense remained resolute, thwarting any threat and preserving the clean sheet victory for Blake.

In the end, Jamaica’s historic achievement reverberated through the stadium, marking a memorable milestone for the football team.
