Guyana Harpy Eagles triumph over Barbados Pride in tense West Indies Championship clash

The Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua and Barbuda witnessed a captivating conclusion to the West Indies Championship clash between the Guyana Harpy Eagles and Barbados Pride on the fourth day of action on Saturday.

In a tense battle, the Harpy Eagles emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter.

Entering the final day, the Barbados Pride required 312 runs for victory, while the Guyana Harpy Eagles aimed to secure 10 wickets for the win. Throughout the day, both teams fought fiercely, making for an enthralling spectacle for spectators.

Despite the Harpy Eagles’ relentless efforts, the Barbados Pride displayed resilience, with Zachary McCaskie, Jason Holder, and Jomel Warrican leading the resistance. Their determined batting effort saw the Pride reach a commendable total of 309 before being bowled out.

Nial Smith played a pivotal role

Nial Smith played a pivotal role in the Harpy Eagles’ triumph, showcasing his bowling prowess with figures of 4-87 in 13.5 overs. Smith’s crucial wickets, including those of McCaskie and Holder, proved instrumental in securing victory for his team.

“Gaining this victory against a strong opponent like Barbados Pride is truly rewarding,” commented Nial Smith. “It required a collective team effort, and I’m proud of our performance today.”

Supported by Gudakesh Motie and Veerasammy Permaul, who contributed with figures of 3-71 and 3-66, respectively, Smith’s heroics propelled the Harpy Eagles to a hard-fought win.

Looking ahead, the Harpy Eagles will face the Windward Islands Volcanoes in the upcoming Round 5 fixture of the 2024 West Indies Championships, aiming to maintain their momentum in the competition.
