In a stunning display of speed and athleticism, 20-year-old Letsile Tebogo from Botswana has rewritten the record books by clocking the fastest ever 300m time in South Africa. Tebogo achieved this remarkable feat during the Simbine Curro Classic Shoot-Out held in Pretoria, solidifying his status as a formidable contender for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
Tebogo’s impressive performance saw him cross the finish line in a blistering time of 30.69 seconds, shaving off more than a tenth of a second from the previous record set by South African sprinting legend Wayde van Niekerk in 2017.
The young sprinter, who clinched silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m at the World Athletics Championships last year, left spectators in awe as he surged ahead of his competitors with a commanding lead, ultimately winning the race by well over a second.
Reflecting on his achievement, Tebogo expressed gratitude towards van Niekerk, stating, “He’s a brother to me. We share the good vibes. There’s no bad energy between us. Thank you for always pushing me and telling me not to belittle myself. Thank you so much, mate.”
