The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Selection Panel has announced the 15-man squads that will represent the West Indies in three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is) against Australia from February 2 to 13.
The ODI squad welcomes two debutants: Grenadian top-order batsman Teddy Bishop and Guyanese wicketkeeper-batsman Tevin Imlach. Bishop showcased his batting prowess during assignments for the West Indies Academy in the recent CG United Super50 Cup and the Academy series against Emerging Ireland.
Meanwhile, Tevin Imlach, who is currently with the Test team in Australia, boasts an average of 30.1 in 26 List A matches.
Justin Greaves, who recently recovered from a hamstring injury sustained during the CG United Super50 Cup, makes a comeback to the ODI team. He performed impressively at the top of the order in that tournament, accumulating 403 runs in seven innings at an average of 80.59 while representing the Leeward Islands Hurricanes.
Notably absent
Also returning to the squad are Hayden Walsh Jr. and Kavem Hodge. Walsh Jr. last played in the ODI format in July 2022 against India, and Hodge made his debut in June 2023 against the UAE during Daren Sammy’s first series as Head Coach.
Notably absent from the last ODI squad that secured a series win against England in December are Brandon King and Sherfane Rutherford. Both players were given the opportunity to secure T20 franchise contracts during this period, along with Shimron Hetmyer and Yannic Cariah.
In the T20I format, Alzarri Joseph, who was rested for the final two T20Is against England, returns to the team, replacing Matthew Forde.
CWI’s Lead Selector, Desmond Haynes, is looking forward to a competitive series in both formats, with an eye on preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which the West Indies will host.
