Most successful winter tourist season in Jamaica’s history, says tourism minister

Jamaica is expected to welcome over one million stopover visitors for the 2023/24 winter tourist season, making it the largest in the nation’s history, according to Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett.

“This achievement underscores the unwavering confidence and support of tourists worldwide, as they continue to choose Jamaica as their preferred holiday destination,” the Minister stated.

“Remember the cruise numbers are not included here. We have already secured 1.5 million seats across the markets of the world and assuming a very low 75 percent load factor from the airlines coming in, we will be more than one million stopover arrivals for the season,” he added.

Health and safety of visitors a top priority

Bartlett also expressed gratitude to travelers for their trust in the destination, while also noting the collaborative initiatives undertaken by various public and private entities.

These measures, he said, include implementing comprehensive health and safety protocols, promoting responsible tourism, and enhancing the overall vacation experience in Jamaica.

Furthermore, Minister Bartlett highlighted the favorable factors that have contributed to the nation’s popularity among tourists, noting that the “picturesque landscapes, pristine beaches, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality” have made Jamaica an enduring favorite among travelers.

“Through strategic partnerships and investments in infrastructure, the government aims to enhance Jamaica’s appeal and competitiveness in the global tourism landscape,” he stated.

“As the winter tourist season begins, we can assure our visitors that their health and safety remain the top priority.

Efforts will continue to be made to adapt and address any emerging challenges, ensuring an unforgettable vacation experience in Jamaica,” he added.
