In a thrilling showdown, the Miami Heat emerged victorious over the Chicago Bulls with a final score of 118-116, thanks to Jimmy Butler’s heroic buzzer-beater.
The defining moment of the game unfolded as Kyle Lowry orchestrated the play, Kevin Love set a crucial screen, and Butler delivered the game-winning shot. Butler’s 28 points included the decisive step-back jumper as time expired, securing a hard-fought win for the Miami Heat.
Reflecting on the game-winning shot, Butler humbly stated, “Anybody can make that shot. All in all, it’s really dope to win because wins are super-hard to come by in this league.”
Love contributed significantly to Miami’s victory with 22 points, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 18, Caleb Martin chipped in with 17, and Lowry tallied 10 points along with seven assists.
DeMar DeRozan led the way with 27 points
For the Chicago Bulls, DeMar DeRozan led the way with 27 points, while Patrick Williams contributed 25 points. Coby White recorded 22 points, Torrey Craig added 16, and Nikola Vucevic had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The game’s critical moment occurred when Vucevic missed a potential go-ahead shot with just 15 seconds remaining. Butler secured the crucial rebound, and Lowry played a pivotal role by communicating with Butler and strategically positioning Love and himself. With two timeouts at their disposal, Miami opted not to call one.
Butler initiated the final play by dribbling up the left side of the court, using screens set by Love and Lowry to navigate his way to a favorable matchup. In a composed manner, Butler executed a step-back jump shot over Coby White as the clock expired, sealing the victory.
Miami played without Bam Adebayo (hip) and Tyler Herro (ankle) once again, although both are expected to return in the coming week, potentially as early as Monday.
Impressive three-point shooting
Chicago faced adversity as well, with Torrey Craig exiting the game at halftime due to an injured right heel. Additionally, the Bulls were without Alex Caruso, who aggravated a left ankle issue during their previous matchup against Miami.
The game was marked by impressive three-point shooting, with a combined total of 21 three-pointers in the first half, ranking among the top seven games for three-pointers this season. Chicago made 11 threes, while Miami made 10, with Kevin Love making five of his attempts. Love’s fifth three-pointer extended Miami’s lead to 39-24 early in the second quarter, but Chicago mounted a comeback, ending the first half trailing by just one point at 58-57.
Throughout the game, the Bulls held the lead by as many as seven points in the third quarter. However, the Heat rallied and finished the period with a significant run, entering the fourth quarter with an 11-point advantage at 91-80. The Bulls displayed resilience, repeatedly taking the lead in the fourth quarter through scores by White and DeRozan. Yet, it was Butler who had the final say with his game-winning shot, reaffirming his reputation as one of the league’s premier closers.
