According to Jamaica Information Service (JIS) news, this project aims to consolidate various virtual services government entities offer into a single, user-friendly digital space.

This initiative reflects a growing trend across governmental bodies to modernize and streamline services through technology.

The Initiative’s inception

The idea was introduced by Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with Responsibility for Skills and Digital Transformation. Senator Morris Dixon discussed this concept during a recent Government of Jamaica (GOJ) Technology Showcase.

The proposal stems from the observation of numerous standalone apps from government agencies, each aiming to simplify their services online.

Streamlining for efficiency

The core of this initiative is to enhance the coordination of digital services. By merging these standalone apps into one comprehensive ‘One Jamaica’ app, the government aims to make interactions with various services more efficient and accessible for the public.

This transformation process is already underway, with numerous teams across different governmental entities contributing to this future-focused vision.

Pioneering moves in digital services

One of the notable advancements includes Jamaica Post’s plan to start delivering motor-vehicle registration documents nationwide in early 2024.

Another commendable initiative is from the Registrar General’s Department (RGD), which is gearing up to introduce birth certificates in braille, starting with a pilot phase in December.

Inclusive digital transformation

Senator Morris Dixon emphasized the importance of all government entities adopting an inclusive approach in their digital transformation strategies.

She also noted that an essential aspect of this digital shift is ensuring inclusivity, so no citizen is left behind in this technological evolution.
