The Belizean Government has recently addressed rumors concerning a supposed “sick-out” among crown counsels.
The government says it is misinformation being published and that is being circulated.
Status of crown counsels and magistrates
The Attorney General’s Ministry has emphasized that the crown counsels were largely present on Monday, with only three officers on pre-approved vacation leave.
Contrary to circulating reports, it has been verified that just one magistrate is currently on sick leave.
Judicial operations continue unaffected
In a bid to quell the rumors, it was highlighted that the operations in the courts are proceeding as usual.
The prosecutors were actively participating in all scheduled court matters, indicating that the judicial process is not impeded.
Government’s stance on judicial efficiency
It was further reassured the public that the administration of justice remains uninterrupted.
The work at the Attorney General’s Ministry is ongoing, and there is no halt in their operations due to employee absenteeism.
Government critiques media reports
The government criticized the recent media coverage and social media discussions about the alleged sick-out.
It labeled these publications as exaggerated and accused them of irresponsible reporting.
The government further stated it will not respond in public domains to unknown sources on employment issues on which it engages with its employees.
