In a significant blow to illegal drug operations, Guyana’s law enforcement agencies have destroyed a substantial marijuana cultivation site.
According to police reports, the lawmen received information about a marijuana plantation and went to the Upper Berbice River in search of the illegal drugs.
Destruction of a major drug source
Upon arrival, the authorities made a startling discovery.
Reports are that they destroyed 30 pounds of Cannabis seeds and approximately 58,000 Cannabis Sativa trees that were planted on 10 acres of land.
In addition to the plants, two makeshift camps and several farming tools were also destroyed.
Police reported that the drugs had an estimated street value of GYD$1,247,388,320 (US$ 5.9 million).
