The specifics surrounding her death have not been disclosed.

A tenure of talent and turnout

Snipes, whose career spanned several decades, was known for her keen ability to identify and nurture talent within the Broward County elections office.

Many of the current staff were recruited and mentored by Snipes, a testament to her enduring influence on the department.

Reports are that under her leadership, the office witnessed remarkable improvements in voter outreach and participation, marking her tenure as a period of significant growth and success.

A steward of civic engagement

Appointed in 2003 by then-Governor Jeb Bush, Snipes brought her experience from the Broward County Public Schools to the forefront of electoral administration.

Her 15-year stewardship of the Supervisor of Elections office was dedicated to enhancing the county’s electoral process and engaging with the youth, many of whom have risen to become community leaders.

Challenges amid achievements

Despite her accomplishments, Snipes’ career was punctuated with moments of contention. The discovery of nearly a thousand uncounted ballots a week post-election in 2012 marked a challenging phase.

Further scrutiny followed in 2017 when she was involved in the premature destruction of ballots, an act contrary to legal requirements.

These incidents culminated in her suspension by Governor Rick Scott after reported mishaps during the 2018 midterm election recount.

Gov. Ron DeSantis later rescinded the suspension and Snipes resigned in 2019.
