In a commanding display of skill and finesse, Victor Wembanyama led the San Antonio Spurs to a resounding 120-104 victory over the Miami Heat on Friday night.
The 7-foot-4 center, who was the Number One pick in this year’s draft, showcased his immense talent with a remarkable 23-point performance in just 23 minutes of play.
Wembanyama’s scoring prowess was on full display as he sank 10 of 15 field goals, including one of five from beyond the 3-point arc, and made both of his free throws. This impressive showing came in his second preseason game, following a solid 20-point performance and a block in 19 minutes during the Spurs’ preseason opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier in the week.
Not content with just scoring, Wembanyama also contributed significantly in other facets of the game. He amassed four rebounds, four assists, and three blocks, further solidifying his all-around abilities on the court. However, it’s worth noting that he also accounted for four of San Antonio’s 13 turnovers during the game.
Jamal Cain impressive for Heat with 24 points
Devin Vassell also played a pivotal role for the Spurs, connecting on six of seven attempts from beyond the three-point line and finishing the game with 21 points and three assists. Jeremy Sochan chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists, adding depth to the Spurs’ offensive efforts.
On the opposing side, Jamal Cain had an impressive performance for the Miami Heat, sinking six of eight three-pointers and tallying 24 points along with 10 rebounds. Duncan Robinson contributed 14 points and five assists to the Heat’s efforts.
Notably, Jaime Jaquez Jr., the 18th overall selection in this year’s draft, did not see action in the game for the Heat after scoring 13 points in Miami’s opening preseason victory over the Charlotte Hornets, which was a 113-109 win.
Wembanyama’s standout performance and the Spurs’ collective effort resulted in an exciting and convincing victory, showcasing the potential of the young talent on the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
