The U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) has signed a new, multi-year agreement to serve as the official Caribbean Destination Partner for the NFL’s New York Jets.
Revealed last Thursday, this partnership positions the USVI to amplify its visibility on the Jets’ fan-oriented platforms.
Strategic collaboration to promote Caribbean culture
Reports are that the USVI plans to integrate distinct aspects of Caribbean culture into the Jets’ matchday events for those in attendance.
“The New York Metropolitan area is one of our main feeder markets, and we could not pass on the opportunity to collaborate with this longstanding franchise to showcase the vibrancy and culture of our beloved islands,” Commissioner Joseph Boschulte, USVI Department of Tourism said.
Jeff Fernandez, Vice President, Business Development + Ventures for the New York Jets said: “We could not be more thrilled to be partnering with our friends from the U.S. Virgin Islands this season. We see a great opportunity to unite our audiences and engage them in not only football but the vibrant culture of America’s Caribbean islands.
Previous sports-travel partnerships
In a similar vein, the NBA’s New York Knicks joined forces with MSC Cruises the previous year. Such affiliations between sports franchises and travel businesses are commonplace.
Additionally, the Miami Heat, a renowned basketball franchise, has been under the ownership umbrella of Micky Arison, the head of Carnival Corporation, for nearly three decades.
