KINGSTOWN, St Vincent — The CG United Women’s Super50 Cup enters its final round on Saturday with Windward Islands Women maintaining an unblemished record, while Jamaica Women staged a dramatic victory over Barbados, setting up an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
Meanwhile, defending champions Trinidad and Tobago Women secured their first win, asserting their intent in the competition.
Windwards edge Leewards to stay perfect
At Cumberland Playing Field, the Windward Islands continued their dominant run, defeating the winless Leeward Islands Women by three wickets. Jannillea Glasgow spearheaded the all-around performance, shining with both bat and ball.
Electing to bat, the Leewards were restricted to 125 in 34.5 overs. Qiana Joseph top-scored with 44, and captain Jahzara Claxton contributed 25, but a collapse of six wickets for just 39 runs derailed their innings. Aldith Gasper led the Windwards’ bowling attack with 3-28, supported by Shanel McKie’s 2-12.
Glasgow then led the chase with authority, scoring an unbeaten 54 off 71 deliveries. The Windwards reached 126 for seven in 34.1 overs, extending their winning streak and sitting atop the points table with 20 points. Leewards remain at the bottom with just five points.
Jamaica overcomes Barbados in comeback classic
At Sion Hill Playing Field, Jamaica Women produced a rollercoaster of a contest against Barbados. The hosts posted 132 in 41 overs, anchored by captain Rashada Williams’ 43 and solid contributions from opener Chrishana McKenzie (26), Stafanie Taylor unbeaten 23, and Chedean Nation 19.
The Barbados bowling unit, led by Naijanni Cumberbatch (4-23), Theanny Herbert-Mayers (3-19), and Shamilia Connell (3-24), kept the contest competitive.
Jamaica’s chase began smoothly, reaching 90 for one, before a sudden collapse saw them lose nine wickets for just 42 runs. However, Celin Whyte and Stafanie Taylor engineered a remarkable recovery. Whyte claimed a five-wicket haul (5-18), while Taylor picked up four (4-17), dismantling Barbados’ chase and bowling them out for 105 in 32.2 overs.
Barbados had looked well-placed at 75 for three in the 20th over, with opener Alisa Scantlebury contributing 43 off 87 balls and Trishan Holder 24, but support was thin. The win propels Jamaica to fifth place with nine points, while Barbados slip to second on 13 points.
Defending champions Trinidad and Tobago Women finally registered a victory, defeating Guyana Women by nine wickets, keeping alive their hopes for a strong finish in the tournament.
