West Indies A Women faced a setback in their opening match of the Twenty20 Tri-Nations Series as they succumbed to a 12-run loss to Pakistan A Women.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Sidra Nawaz’s unbeaten half-century proved pivotal in the low-scoring encounter, played at the Lahore Country Club.
The West Indies A Women’s batting line-up struggled on a pitch favoring bowlers, managing only 100 runs in reply to Pakistan A Women’s total of 112 for five. Nawaz was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 55 runs from 41 balls.
The Windies’ off-spinner Sheneta Grimmond made an impact with the ball, claiming two wickets for 11 runs in her four overs. She played a pivotal role in a top-order collapse for Pakistan A Women, reducing them to 23 for four in the eighth over.
Competitive total
Nawaz’s partnership with Omaima Sohail, who contributed 26 runs, helped Pakistan A Women reach a competitive total. However, no other Pakistan A Women batsman managed to score more than 20 runs.
West Indies A Women’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets in the Power Play. Qiana Joseph was dismissed for a duck at the very first ball, and they ended the Power Play at 28 for two. Captain Rashada Williams top-scored for the West Indies A Women with 21 runs, but the team struggled to build partnerships.
Humna Bilal was the most successful bowler for Pakistan A Women, taking three wickets for 17 runs in three overs, while Tasmia Rubab contributed with two wickets for 15 runs in three overs.
The West Indies A Women were scheduled to face Thailand Women in their next match of the tournament at the same venue on Saturday.
