Representing Toronto FC after being selected as the first overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, Spicer now sets his sights on the grand stage of European football.

“First, I’ve got a job to do in Toronto,” Spicer confidently shared during an interview with local media. “Hopefully, the sky’s the limit, and I can make the jump to Europe soon.”

A promising start amidst challenges

In his debut season, Spicer made an indelible mark with 19 league appearances, netting two goals and providing an assist. Adding to his accolades, he found the back of the net in the prestigious Canadian Championship. However, the journey wasn’t without its hurdles. A back injury sidelined the talented winger for a significant portion of the season, keeping him off the field from early June to late August and limiting his contributions during a pivotal stretch.

When fit, Spicer proved to be a game-changer. Under the guidance of former Toronto FC head coach John Herdman, he displayed flair and determination that drew glowing praise. Herdman lauded Spicer as “a joy to coach,” commending his “massive confidence and unshakeable belief in himself.” Herdman further predicted a bright future for Spicer, likening his potential to that of Canadian superstar Alphonso Davies.

Adapting to change and eyeing growth

With Herdman’s departure, Spicer now looks forward to evolving under new management at Toronto FC. Despite the uncertainties, his optimism remains unshaken. “Toronto FC is a big club, a massive one in MLS,” Spicer asserted. “I think my first season went well, and I’m determined to achieve bigger and better things in the seasons ahead.”

Spicer recently returned to his roots, visiting Trincity Nationals, the youth club where his journey began. Reconnecting with former coaches and sharing his experiences with budding players, he emphasized the importance of hard work and perseverance.

As he continues to build his career, Spicer’s ambition to conquer Europe reflects his growing stature as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s brightest footballing talents.
