In a display of exceptional spin bowling prowess, off-spinner Bryan Charles spearheaded the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force to a resounding victory over the Jamaica Scorpions, clinching an innings and 125-run win on day three of their West Indies Championship encounter at Sabina Park on Friday.
Charles’ remarkable performance saw him claim 13 wickets in the match, earning him the well-deserved title of man-of-the-match. His stellar contributions were instrumental in the Red Force’s commanding triumph over their opponents.
The match unfolded with Trinidad and Tobago Red Force posting a formidable total of 432 runs in their first innings, setting the stage for a dominant display with both bat and ball. In response, the Jamaica Scorpions faltered, managing scores of 189 and 118 in their two innings.
Scorpions showed initial promise
The Scorpions, under pressure to avoid the follow-on, resumed on 159 for nine on the third day. Despite some resistance from overnight batsman Jeavor Royal, who contributed 46 runs, the Scorpions could only muster a total of 189 runs before being bowled out.
In their second innings, the Scorpions showed initial promise with openers Carlos Brown and Javaughn Buchanan forging a solid partnership. However, Charles quickly turned the tide in favor of the Red Force by claiming crucial wickets, triggering a collapse in the Scorpions’ batting line-up.
Despite a resilient effort from Javaughn Buchanan, who scored 33 runs, the Scorpions succumbed to Charles’ relentless bowling attack, losing their last eight wickets for a mere 58 runs.
Address batting vulnerabilities
Speaking after the match, Scorpions vice-captain Abijai Mansingh acknowledged the team’s failure to counter the Red Force’s spinners effectively, emphasizing the need to build partnerships and address batting vulnerabilities.
In contrast, winning captain Joshua Da Silva praised his team’s comprehensive performance, highlighting their determination to bounce back from previous setbacks. He commended the team’s resilience and character, which propelled them to victory in the face of adversity.
