Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday, powering past St. Vincent and the Grenadines 5-0 to seize sole possession of the Group D lead in the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers.
Playing at Stadion Guillermo Prospero Trinidad, the young Reggae Girlz combined patience, precision, and relentless pressure to overwhelm their opponents and reinforce their credentials as serious contenders in the qualifying campaign.
Breakthrough before the interval
Jamaica’s dominance finally translated into goals late in the first half. The breakthrough arrived in the 38th minute when St. Vincent and the Grenadines inadvertently turned the ball into their own net under sustained pressure.
Momentum quickly swung decisively in Jamaica’s favor. Just three minutes later, Jaya Lecky stepped up confidently from the penalty spot and converted, sending the Reggae Girlz into halftime with a commanding 2-0 advantage.
Second-half surge seals the rout
The victors showed no signs of easing off after the restart. Eight minutes into the second half, Malayna Johnson-Mighty calmly guided a right-footed effort from the center of the box into the bottom left corner, extending the lead to 3-0.
Jamaica then put the contest beyond doubt with two quickfire strikes. In the 67th minute, Kalila Daley found the bottom left corner with a left-footed shot, and moments later Shennell Walters completed the scoring, firing a right-footed finish into the bottom right corner to cap a dominant display.
Standings and the road ahead
The victory lifts Jamaica to seven points from three matches, placing them one point clear of Honduras, who sit on six points from two games in Group D.
Under the qualification format, the six group winners and the two best second-placed teams will advance to the final round. Those eight nations will join the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Puerto Rico in a 12-team competition.
The final phase will feature three groups, with each group winner and the best second-placed team overall earning qualification for the 2026 FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup in Morocco.
