Jamaica will enter the Copa America tournament on Saturday as the highest-ranked Caribbean Football Union (CFU) team in the latest world rankings released by FIFA, the sport’s world governing body.
The Jamaicans are ranked 53rd globally, maintaining their position as the sixth highest-ranked team in the CONCACAF region and one of four CFU teams within the world’s top 100.
According to FIFA, the period since the previous rankings in April has been eventful, with no fewer than 187 international matches played across various qualifiers and warm-up matches for upcoming major tournaments. These included the Asian Football Confederation, Confederation of African Football, and CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as well as preparations for the Copa America, EURO 2024, and the Oceania Football Confederation Nations Cup.

The Reggae Boyz, as the Jamaican team is known, played two matches during this period, securing victories in both World Cup qualifiers. They narrowly defeated North Caribbean neighbors, the Dominican Republic, 1-0 on June 6 at the National Stadium in Kingston. They faced a more challenging match against hosts Dominica, ultimately winning 3-2 on June 9 at Windsor Park in Roseau.
Other CFU teams in the FIFA top 100 include Haiti, ranked 86th (ninth in CONCACAF), Curacao at 87th (10th in CONCACAF), and Trinidad & Tobago at 99th (11th in CONCACAF). Suriname, ranked 141st, has overtaken Antigua & Barbuda as the fifth-highest-ranked CFU team and 14th in CONCACAF.
Antigua & Barbuda experienced the most significant drop in the rankings among CFU and CONCACAF teams, now placed 148th in the world and 15th in CONCACAF. They are positioned seventh in the CFU rankings, behind St Kitts & Nevis at 146th globally (14th in CONCACAF). Following Antigua & Barbuda are the Dominican Republic at 150th (16th in CONCACAF), Guyana at 153rd (17th in CONCACAF), and Puerto Rico at 156th (18th in CONCACAF), rounding out the CFU top 10.
