Red Force spinners’ magic secures opening victory over CCC

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – The Trinidad & Tobago Red Force clinched a 60-run win over the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) Marooners, thanks to stellar performances by spinners Khary Pierre and Yannic Cariah, who snared seven wickets in their first CG United Super50 match of the season.

Despite T&T’s low total of 194, Pierre and Cariah dismantled CCC’s batting line-up, pulling off a dramatic comeback after CCC seemed comfortably set for victory at 102 for two on Tuesday.

Batting first after losing the toss at Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground, T&T’s line-up struggled to gain momentum, with opener Kjorn Ottley leading with 45 runs. However, T&T’s hopes dimmed as they stumbled to 122 for five, needing a late rescue act. Jyd Goolie, with 37, and Cariah, contributing 28, managed a 68-run stand to stabilize the innings. Still, Amari Goodridge’s tight bowling dismantled the tail, keeping T&T just shy of 200 runs.

CCC began their chase in strong fashion

CCC began their chase in strong fashion, with Shaqkere Parris anchoring the innings with a solid 57 off 68 balls, featuring five fours and two sixes. Alongside Demario Richards, the Marooners seemed set for an upset. However, Parris’s departure at 103 sparked a dramatic collapse, as the team crumbled, losing their last eight wickets for a mere 32 runs.

Pierre, with a remarkable 4-8 in 9.1 overs, and Cariah’s 3-31, swung the momentum sharply back in T&T’s favor, triggering a complete CCC collapse at 134. Their combined efforts halted any chance of a CCC comeback, sealing a confident opening win for the defending champions.
