Led by stellar performances from West Indies duo Nicholas Pooran and Andre Fletcher, MI Emirates secured their maiden title in the tournament.

Opting to bat first, MI Emirates got off to a flying start with Pooran, the team’s captain, leading from the front. His blistering knock of 57 runs off 27 balls, which included two fours and six sixes, set the tone for the innings. Fletcher provided valuable support with a composed 53 off 37 deliveries, guiding his team to a formidable total of 208 for three.

Dubai Capitals struggled to find momentum

In pursuit of the challenging target, Dubai Capitals struggled to find momentum, managing only 47 runs for the loss of two wickets at the end of the Power Play. Despite a valiant effort from their captain Sam Billings, who top-scored with 40 runs, the Capitals failed to capitalize on several opportunities as MI Emirates displayed a clinical performance in the field.

With Trent Boult and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth picking up crucial wickets, MI Emirates successfully restricted Dubai Capitals to 163 for seven, securing a comfortable victory and clinching the ILT20 title.

Reflecting on the triumph, Pooran expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and highlighted the collective effort that led to their success.

Pooran credited the team’s unity and determination

“I couldn’t ask for anything else from this team,” Pooran remarked. “This is exactly what we wanted. We planned how we wanted to go about this game, and it’s nice to see the guys go out there and execute.”

Acknowledging the significance of the win for the Mumbai Indians franchise, Pooran credited the team’s unity and determination throughout the tournament. He also emphasized the invaluable guidance provided by experienced players like Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, who played pivotal roles in MI Emirates’ journey to victory.

With their memorable triumph, MI Emirates added another accolade to the Mumbai Indians franchise’s illustrious record, cementing their status as formidable contenders in the T20 format.
