PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Matthew Nandu’s standout century for the Guyana Harpy Eagles couldn’t withstand the weather, as rain washed out their CG United Super50 match against the Combined Campuses and Colleges Marooners at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground on Thursday.
Nandu’s innings of 116 off 103 balls, along with solid half-centuries from Tevin Imlach and Kemol Savory, powered the Harpy Eagles to a competitive total of 217 for seven in a reduced 45-over match.
The Eagles got off to a promising start, with Nandu and Imlach putting together an impressive 123-run partnership for the second wicket after the early loss of Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who managed just 13 runs. Imlach’s swift 51 kept the scoreboard moving at nearly six runs per over before he was dismissed by Abhijai Mansingh in the 26th over. Mansingh then struck again to remove Kevlon Anderson, who added only 11 runs, but Nandu found support from Savory, adding another 52 runs for the fourth wicket.
Remarkable innings
Nandu, whose remarkable innings featured seven fours and five sixes, was finally dismissed by off-spinner Mikkel Govia with the score at 217 for four. As wickets fell, Savory anchored the lower order, reaching an unbeaten 50 to help the Eagles post a challenging total. Govia led the Marooners’ bowling with figures of 4-42 from his nine overs, while Mansingh chipped in with 2-45.
In response, the Marooners reached 32 for one in just under seven overs before rain interrupted play, with opener Kamil Pooran contributing a brisk 20 off 23 balls. Despite a hopeful start, heavy showers forced an early end to the match, leaving the Harpy Eagles without a result and still looking for their first win after a narrow one-wicket loss to the Windward Islands Volcanoes in their opening game.
