ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — A marquee confrontation is set to ignite the Caribbean as Cricket West Indies confirmed a high-profile white-ball series between West Indies Women and the formidable Australia Women in March and April 2026.
The six-match tour, comprising three T20 Internationals and three One Day Internals, will unfold across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Saint Kitts and Nevis, promising a festival of elite cricket and charged atmospheres. With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Kingdom looming just months later, the series carries significance far beyond bilateral bragging rights.
Global supremacy meets Caribbean resolve
Australia arrives as the undisputed standard-bearer of the women’s game, perched atop the world rankings in both formats. West Indies, ranked fifth in T20 Internationals and ninth in One Day Internationals, will view the contest as both a measuring stick and an opportunity to sharpen their competitive edge against the sport’s most dominant force.
The encounter also represents a critical phase of preparation following the regional side’s ongoing home campaign against Sri Lanka, a chance to refine combinations, test resilience, and build momentum ahead of the global showpiece.
A defining benchmark
CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe emphasized the importance of facing the world’s best at this juncture.
“With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup just a few months away, this series against Australia is a pivotal benchmark in our preparation. It gives our players the opportunity to challenge themselves against the very best and to elevate their performance under pressure.”
Initial discussions explored the possibility of a standalone Test match, but strategic priorities ultimately shifted toward white-ball readiness.
“Our planning this year prioritizes maximizing white-ball readiness ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. This series forms a central part of that preparation, allowing us to concentrate resources and build combinations. We remain committed to the long-term growth of women’s Test cricket, and discussions are already underway for a future red-ball opportunity, including a highly anticipated series against England in 2027,” Bascombe said.
A celebration for Caribbean fans
Supporters in both host nations are expected to play a vital role in energizing the spectacle. Free admission to all fixtures has been announced, an open invitation for fans to rally behind the Maroon Warriors and transform the venues into cauldrons of Caribbean passion.
Additional details, including squad selections, match start times, and broadcast arrangements, are slated for release in the coming weeks.
