Memphis 901 FC, a team in the United Soccer League (USL), has announced the signing of Jamaican forward Neco Brett to a multi-year deal, pending approval from the USL and the United States Soccer Federation.
This transfer continues the trend of English-speaking Caribbean players finding opportunities in the USL.
Caleb Patterson-Sewell, assistant sporting director for 901 FC, expressed delight in welcoming Neco Brett to Memphis, highlighting Brett’s track record as a goalscorer in the league and his wealth of experience. Patterson-Sewell also emphasized Brett’s strong desire to win a championship and his winning mentality.
Impressive record
Brett has an impressive record, ranking third on the USL Championship all-time scoring list with 85 goals in over 200 appearances. Last season, he scored 12 goals in 32 matches for Birmingham Legion, including a remarkable hat trick in less than 15 minutes on the pitch against FC Tulsa.
Brett’s soccer journey began in Jamaica, where he played for the National Under-17 and Under-20 teams. He later joined Robert Morris University in the American college circuit from 2012 to 2015. In the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, he was selected in the second round by the Portland Timbers.
Memphis 901 FC is gearing up for the USL Championship regular-season opener against Las Vegas Lights FC on March 9 at AutoZone Park.
