Jamaica gears up for inaugural Hockey 5s World Cup with strong 10-man squad

The Jamaica Hockey Federation is poised to make history as it announces a formidable 10-man squad for Jamaica’s debut appearance in the Hockey 5s World Cup.

This momentous occasion marks Jamaica’s first-ever participation in the prestigious tournament, cementing its status as a rising force in international hockey.

Jamaica earned its coveted spot in the 2024 Hockey 5s World Cup following a stellar performance in the Hockey 5s Pan American Cup held in Kingston last June, securing a remarkable third-place finish. The forthcoming World Cup is scheduled to take place from January 28 to 31 in the vibrant city of Muscat, Oman.

An exhilarating campaign

As they venture onto the global stage, Jamaica finds itself placed in Pool B, alongside formidable opponents India, Egypt, and Switzerland. The team’s highly anticipated journey kicks off with a clash against Switzerland on January 28, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating campaign.

The selected squad represents a blend of experience, talent, and youthful exuberance, all geared towards elevating Jamaica’s presence in international hockey. The 10-man squad comprises the following exceptional athletes:

Ajani Burton (goalkeeper & captain), Richard Harris (co-captain), Christopher Reid (co-captain), Tyrone Vernon, Rasheed Johnston (goalkeeper), George McGlashen, Shemar Gordon, Kemar Mitchell, Tuseef Graham, Daniel Powell.
