PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – The Leeward Islands Hurricanes cruised to a commanding 142-run victory over the West Indies Academy in the Regional Super50 Cup at Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in another game marked by rain delays, Barbados Pride edged out Jamaica Scorpions by 24 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
Electing to bat first, the Hurricanes built a formidable total of 236-7 in a rain-shortened 47-over contest. Leading the charge, Justin Greaves delivered a masterclass with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 111 off 117 balls, which included nine boundaries and a six. Dimitri Adams chipped in with 26 to provide critical support. West Indies Academy’s Jediah Blades and Joshua Bishop worked hard with the ball, taking 3-49 and 2-31, respectively.
Relentless pressure
In their reply, the Academy’s batting line-up crumbled under relentless pressure from the Hurricanes’ bowlers, managing only 94 runs in 27.5 overs. Nimar Bolden top-scored with 30, while captain Teddy Bishop and Carlon Bowen-Tuckett each added 21. Hurricanes’ seasoned off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall led the assault, taking 3-22, with Daniel Doram also claiming three wickets for 34 to close out the victory.
In Tarouba, the Barbados Pride defeated the Jamaica Scorpions by 24 runs under the DLS method after rain affected their encounter. Pride, batting first, posted a challenging 260-8 in their allotted 50 overs. Leniko Boucher starred with a composed 73, while Zachary McCaskie supported with a steady 63. Captain Kyle Mayers added a rapid 41 to strengthen the Pride’s innings. Marquino Mindley was a bright spot for the Scorpions, taking 3-32, while Jeavor Royal and Brad Barnes contributed with two wickets each.
Chasing a revised target, the Scorpions stumbled at crucial junctures and were eventually bowled out for 199 in 35 overs. Odean Smith’s determined 45 and Jermaine Blackwood’s steady 40 were not enough to turn the tide. Jomel Warrican dismantled the Scorpions’ line-up with a brilliant 4-25, and left-arm seamer Dominic Drakes contributed 3-34 to seal the victory.
