Scottish football club Hearts have made an exciting addition to their squad by signing Jamaican defender Dexter Lembikisa on loan from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) until the end of the current season.
Lembikisa, a 20-year-old right-back, had previously spent the first half of the season on loan at Rotherham United in the English Championship, where he made 27 appearances. His impressive performances there have caught the attention of Hearts.
Having made his debut for Wolves last season, Lembikisa has also featured four times for the Premier League club. His rapid development and consistent performances led him to earn 14 international caps for Jamaica.
Expressed his satisfaction
Hearts’ Head Coach, Steven Naismith, expressed his satisfaction with the early acquisition of Dexter Lembikisa, stating, “His progression over the past year has been massive. He’s played the first half of this season at a high level down south, and he’s also become a regular on the international scene for Jamaica. We’re confident he can come to Hearts and make an impact over the next five months.”
This signing strengthens Hearts’ options at right-back, a key position in football, as they aim to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season. Currently, Australian international Nathanial Atkinson is unavailable due to his commitments at the Asian Cup, while Odel Offiah has returned to his parent club, Brighton.
Lembikisa’s arrival at Hearts marks the club’s first signing of the January transfer window and has created excitement among the fans and within the team. Hearts will look to harness his talents and contributions as they continue their campaign in Scottish football.
