In a thrilling inaugural match of the 2024 Team Girls Cup, the West Coast Fever clinched a nail-biting 52-50 victory against the New South Wales Swifts, captivating fans with an exhilarating display of skill and determination.
Spearheading the Fever’s triumph was the remarkable Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, whose stellar performance saw her net an impressive 40 goals from just 43 attempts.
Despite a valiant effort from Trinidad and Tobago’s Samantha Wallace, who scored 17 goals for the Swifts, it was Fowler-Nembhard’s towering presence on the court that stole the spotlight from the onset.
From the opening whistle, both teams showcased unwavering determination, trading goals relentlessly in a bid to gain an early advantage. However, it was the Fever, led by captain Jess Anstiss and supported by Fowler-Nembhard and newcomer Olivia Wilkinson, who began to assert their dominance as the game progressed.

As the final quarter unfolded, tension gripped the court as each possession became crucial. Despite the Swifts’ relentless pressure, the Fever maintained their composure, guided by Alice Teague-Neale’s midfield orchestration and Sunday Aryang’s unwavering determination.
In the end, it was the Fever who emerged victorious, securing a hard-fought win in a match that showcased the best of women’s netball talent.
