ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — With the stage set for a summer of high-stakes cricket, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has unveiled the squads for the much-anticipated West Indies “A” Team home series against South Africa “A”, scheduled to ignite action from May 21 to June 11 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia.
This series is more than a set of matches — it’s a critical proving ground for rising regional talent, offering future stars the chance to test their mettle against formidable international opponents.
A platform for growth and glory
CWI’s Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, underscored the strategic significance of the series, describing it as a cornerstone in the region’s player development pipeline.
“This series gives us the opportunity to broaden our player pool and aligns with our long-term strategic plan to support the growth of emerging and fringe players who are on the cusp of advancing to the senior team,” said Bascombe.
With regional standouts rewarded for consistent performances across formats, the series reflects CWI’s vision to deepen the bench strength and sharpen the edge of West Indies cricket.
Fresh leadership at the helm
Dynamic batting talent Alick Athanaze will take the reins as captain for the three-match 50-over leg, bringing aggression and flair to the top order.
Meanwhile, the red-ball battles will feature split captaincy for the two four-day “A” Tests:
- Tevin Imlach will lead the side in the first Test,
- and seasoned spinner Jomel Warrican will command the squad in the second.
These appointments not only reflect the players’ tactical insight but also give them vital leadership experience at the international level.
Coaching firepower and tactical depth
The team will be guided by Head Coach Andre Coley, with support from: Dwain Gill (Team Manager), former Windies pacer Jerome Taylor (Bowling Coach), John Eugene (Fielding Coach), Shian Ollivierre (Physiotherapist), and Damique Walters (Strength & Conditioning Coach).
Together, the coaching staff brings a potent mix of technical acumen and motivational leadership to this critical developmental series.
