In a commanding performance at Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Dolphins secured a resounding 30-0 victory over the New York Jets. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the offense with 224 passing yards and a touchdown, while wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and running back Raheem Mostert combined for three scores.
The Dolphins’ defense also excelled, delivering their first shutout of the season.
With the NFL’s leading receiver, Tyreek Hill, sidelined due to injury, Jaylen Waddle stepped up, making a significant impact with eight receptions for 142 yards and a touchdown. Tagovailoa’s precision was on display as he completed 87.5 percent of his passes, connecting on 21 of 24 attempts.
Raheem Mostert was the driving force behind the Dolphins’ offensive success, contributing two rushing touchdowns. In doing so, Mostert established new franchise records for touchdowns in a season (20) and rushing touchdowns in a season (18).
A standout performance
On the defensive front, linebacker Bradley Chubb had a standout performance, tying his career high with seven tackles and recording three sacks. Chubb also forced two fumbles, setting a new career high. These defensive efforts helped the Dolphins secure their first shutout win since October 18, 2020, when they defeated the Jets 24-0.
Miami’s defense stifled the Jets, allowing them only 103 total yards. This marked the second-fewest yards conceded in franchise history. Additionally, the Dolphins prevented the Jets from gaining a single rushing first down, a feat not accomplished since September 30, 2012, against the Arizona Cardinals.
The game began with an early turnover as defensive tackle Zack Sieler recovered a fumble, setting up Mostert’s record-breaking touchdown. Later, the Dolphins’ special teams thwarted a fake punt attempt by the Jets, resulting in a field goal by Jason Sanders.
A 60-yard touchdown pass from Tagovailoa to Waddle extended Miami’s lead in the second quarter. The first half concluded with Mostert scoring another rushing touchdown, putting the Dolphins ahead 24-0. The Dolphins’ defense dominated the first half, registering 5.0 sacks, which equaled the franchise’s highest first-half sack count since 1991.
Limited to just 23 rushing yards
The Jets struggled to advance into the Dolphins’ territory, and they did not enter the red zone throughout the game. The Dolphins’ defensive performance was highlighted by safety Brandon Jones, who recorded five tackles and two interceptions. Six different Dolphins defenders contributed at least half a sack.
The Jets were limited to just 23 rushing yards, marking the lowest rushing output by an NFL team in the season. This was a remarkable defensive achievement for Miami, building on their performance in their previous matchup against the Jets in Week 12, where they allowed only 29 rushing yards.
Kicker Jason Sanders added two field goals in the second half to seal the 30-0 victory.
The Dolphins will return to Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, December 24, to face the Dallas Cowboys (10-4) with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX.
