Christania Williams, an Olympic 100m finalist, showcased her sprinting prowess by clinching victory in the women’s 60m event at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting, part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver series, held on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old sprinter demonstrated her form by posting an indoor personal best time of 7.18s in the preliminary round, securing the fastest qualification for the final. In the final race, Williams clocked a slightly slower time of 7.23s but still emerged victorious, finishing ahead of Great Britain’s Imani-Lara Lansiquot (7.26s) and Hungary’s Boglara Takacs (7.27s).
Williams, who reached the Olympic 100m final in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, is aiming to return to her peak performance level after facing challenges with injuries in recent years. Her victory at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting marks a significant step in her comeback journey.
Strongest performances on Tuesday
Having already competed in eight 60m races this year, Williams delivered her strongest performances on Tuesday. She notably secured second-place finishes in the heats at both the Meeting de Paris on February 11 and the ISTAF Indoor Dusseldorf on February 4, recording times of 7.19s and 7.27s, respectively.
Her season began with a solid 7.29s effort, resulting in a victory at the National Indoor Cup in Vienna on January 16. Williams’ consistent presence and improving performances in the 60m dash signal a promising trajectory as she continues her competitive season.
