His passing has left a void in the world of track and field, where his insights and analyses were cherished and revered.

During the launch of the championships on Wednesday evening, Don Webhy, CEO of the GraceKennedy Group, announced plans for a fitting tribute to honor Lawrence’s unparalleled contributions. “GraceKennedy would like to honor Hubert at Champs… I am confident that an announcement will be made very shortly in terms of how we can honor his memory,” Wehby said.

ISSA President Keith Wellington echoed this sentiment, affirming that efforts are underway to develop a tribute in collaboration with Lawrence’s family and GraceKennedy. Olympian Vilma Charlton, representing the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, also paid tribute to Lawrence’s legacy.

A heartfelt tribute

Dr. Claire Clarke-Grant, Deputy CEO of Broadcast and Content Services at the RJR Group, delivered a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on Lawrence’s profound impact on their broadcasts. She emphasized his role in educating viewers about the essence of track and field and the significance it holds for communities and families.

Reflecting on Lawrence’s absence, Dr. Clarke-Grant highlighted his enduring legacy, describing him as a guiding light for all track and field enthusiasts. “We will miss his presence dearly, and his legacy will forever remain a guiding light…,” she expressed, capturing the collective sentiment of a community mourning the loss of an icon.

As the championships approach, the planned tribute to Hubert Lawrence serves as a testament to his lasting influence on the world of athletics, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire generations to come.
