Bridgeport and Mavis Bank emerged victorious at South Florida’s 13th Jamaica High School Alumni Sporting Network (JHSASN) Soccer and Netball Tournament on Monday night.
Bridgeport’s soccer victory
Playing at the Lauderhill Sports Complex for the first time since 2019, Bridgeport defeated Clarendon College 2-0 in the final of the soccer competition courtesy of a goal by Shemar Shelton (brother or late Reggae Boy Luton) and an Oshani Walker penalty.
They won the National Weekly Cup.
Bridgeport’s Michael Binns was voted the Most Valuable Player; Shelton won the Golden Boot with four strikes; Adrian Reid, also of Bridgeport, won the Most Outstanding Defender; Clarendon College’s Simon Utrera won the Golden Glove and the final MVP was Oshani Walker of the winning side.
Six teams contested this year’s renewal – Tivoli Gardens, Clarendon College and Bridgeport in Zone A, with Herbert Morrison, Ferncourt and Kingston College completing the list in Zone B.
Mavis Bank’s netball victory
In the netball competition, Mavis Bank came out on top 10-2 in the final against Denbigh.
The other teams contesting the netball competition were Alpha, Mona, Excelsior and Vere.
The Most Improved Player award went to Sheyenne Cousins who represented Vere.
Mavis Bank thus won the Grace Bailey Memorial Trophy along with a set of jerseys sponsored by Gushman Sports and a cash award sponsored by the Alumni Association.
