Bermuda edge Guyana 1-0 in Gold Cup warm-up game

HAMILTON, Bermuda, Jun 7, CMC – Donte Brangman scored the only goal of the game as Bermuda defeated Guyana 1-0 in a hard-fought friendly at Bermuda’s National Stadium on Thursday night with both countries preparing to make their debuts in this month’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Bermuda dominated the first half and broke the deadlock in the 37th minute as Brangman collected the ball on the right-hand side of the penalty area before firing a low right-footed shot beyond Guyana goalkeeper Alex Murray and into the far corner.

Both teams made a host of substitutions after the break as Bermuda held on to secure a fifth straight victory to the delight of a large home crowd.

The last time the teams met here they drew 1-1 in a World Cup qualifier in 2011.

Bermuda, who finished fifth in the CONCACAF Nations League qualifiers, two places above Guyana, to book their Gold Cup place, are in Group B where they have been pitted against Costa Rica, Haiti and Nicaragua.

Guyana’s Gold Cup group-stage opponents will be the United States, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago.
