This marks Adebayo’s fifth consecutive appearance on an All-Defensive team and his first selection to the top group.

Adebayo joins an elite group alongside Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves), Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs), Herbert Jones (New Orleans Pelicans), and Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers). The three-time All-Star showcased his defensive versatility and impact throughout the season, averaging 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks per game while posting a defensive rating of 109.3.

Ability to guard multiple positions

Adebayo finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting, trailing only Gobert and Wembanyama. Known for his ability to guard multiple positions, Adebayo frequently had to step up offensively due to injuries within the Heat roster. He averaged 19.3 points and 10.4 rebounds on 52.1 percent shooting in 71 appearances, further highlighting his importance to the team.

Looking ahead, Adebayo will maintain his strong form as a member of Team USA for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite his busy schedule, he admitted that the offseason has given him more downtime than he’s accustomed to.

“Man, I got so much time I don’t even know what to do with it,” Adebayo said in his exit interview. “Which sounds ridiculous considering throughout the season all we ask for is time, but this is time where you just reflect on the season, reflect on what happened, reflect on yourself, and how you can be better and what could’ve been different.”

Adebayo’s selection to the All-Defensive First Team not only underscores his defensive prowess but also solidifies his status as one of the league’s premier big men. His continued excellence will be crucial as the Heat aim to build on their successes and strive for greater achievements in the coming seasons.
