FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Hundreds of animal lovers and their four-legged companions gathered Saturday morning for the 35th annual VCA Walk for the Animals, the largest fundraiser for the Humane Society of Broward County. The one-mile walk, which started at 9 a.m. at Intracoastal Park on Las Olas, helps raise funds for essential programs such as adoptions, fostering, vaccinations, and medical care for homeless pets.
This year’s fundraising goal is $518,000, and by Saturday morning, donations had already reached approximately 90% of that target, surpassing $463,000.
The event featured live music, food vendors, and giveaways, along with pools and play areas for dogs. Attendees were encouraged to donate, with many contributing between $10 and $25 — the cost of a microchip, vaccine, or bedding for shelter animals.
Participants enjoyed a lively morning filled with music, vendor tents, and pet-friendly activities, all while walking in support of the shelter’s mission. With donations still being accepted, organizers remain optimistic that they’ll reach their fundraising goal.
For over 34 years, the Walk for the Animals has served as the Humane Society of Broward County’s largest annual fundraiser.
