A suspicious package discovered Monday morning at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center in downtown Miami prompted a swift evacuation of the building and a suspension of Metrorail and Metromover service, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say they were alerted to the package around 9:20 a.m. at the Government Center, located at 111 NW First St., one of the city’s busiest transit and administrative hubs. The Miami-Dade bomb squad was immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate.

As a precaution, the entire Government Center area was evacuated, and Miami-Dade Transit suspended service on both the Metrorail and Metromover systems, causing significant disruptions for commuters.

ALERT: “All Metrorail and Metromover service has been temporarily suspended. Please expect systemwide impacts and allow extra travel time. Updates will be provided as they become available.” — @IRideMDT posted on X.

Just after 10:30 a.m., Miami-Dade Transit issued further updates on social media:

Local and federal authorities are continuing their investigation into the package, and no further details about its contents have been released. The situation remains evolving, and this is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
