A Jamaican singer and lead vocalist of the popular Visions Band, known for performing at Caribbean events across South Florida, has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a family member over a seven-year period.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), Andrew Hanson, who go goes by the name Murphy Prince, has been accused of repeatedly assaulting the victim since 2018. The arrest affidavit states that the victim, now 18, reported that the abuse began when she was just 11 years old.
Hanson is currently being held at the Palm Beach County Jail. Authorities say he first assaulted the victim while bathing her, and the abuse continued monthly since she moved in with him in 2018.
Investigators detailed in the affidavit that Hanson would frequently summon the victim to meet him in the parking lot of their apartment complex in the early morning hours, usually around 2 a.m. or 3 a.m., via text messages. She told authorities that she knew he expected to have sex with her. Afterward, he allegedly instructed her to return to the apartment and delete their messages.
The most recent assault reportedly took place on January 4 inside the victim’s bedroom. On January 30, when questioned by deputies, Hanson allegedly admitted to sending the messages and engaging in sexual activity with the victim, including the most recent incident while his wife and family were out of town.
Hanson remains in custody as the investigation continues. Authorities urge anyone with additional information to come forward.
The band is well-known throughout the Caribbean-American community in South Florida. Hanson has also performed with other bands in Florida and as a solo vocalist.
