Police investigating fatal double stabbing in Sunrise

Authorities in Sunrise have launched an investigation into a deadly double stabbing that occurred early Wednesday morning in a residential neighborhood.

According to Sunrise police, officers were called to The Retreat at Sawgrass Village, located in the 3000 block of Northwest 130th Avenue, just before 2 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals who had been stabbed, reportedly in the community’s parking garage.

One victim died from their injuries at the scene. The second victim was transported for medical treatment, but their condition has not yet been disclosed.

Authorities have not released information on what led up to the stabbing, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Sunrise, Florida, generally maintains a lower violent crime rate compared to national averages. According to NeighborhoodScout, the city’s violent crime rate stands at 2 per 1,000 residents, which is about average for communities across America. This translates to a 1 in 663 chance of becoming a victim of violent crime in Sunrise, compared to the Florida state average of 1 in 345. The recent double stabbing incident is notable, as such violent events are relatively uncommon in Sunrise.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
