A national assessment by U.S. News and World Report evaluated 25,000 public high schools throughout the United States by various metrics, including college preparedness, state assessment proficiency, performance of underserved students, breadth of college curriculum, and graduation rates.

Leading the charge within Florida and securing the third spot nationally is the School for Advanced Studies (SAS). Renowned for its Advanced Placement® program, SAS boasts a 100% participation rate in AP coursework and exams. The student body composition reflects a high diversity, with minorities comprising 92% and 52% classified as economically disadvantaged.

Situated across five campuses of Miami Dade College — Kendall, North, Wolfson, West, and Homestead — the School for Advanced Studies is one of 139 high schools within the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system.

Below are the top five high schools in the nation, according to U.S. News:

  1. The Early College at Guilford (Greensboro, NC)
  2. Signature School (Evansville, IN)
  3. School For Advanced Studies (Miami, FL)
  4. The Davidson Academy of Nevada (Reno, NV)
  5. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (Alexandria, VA)

Beyond its remarkable national standing, SAS clinched the top position among Florida’s high schools, as well as in the Miami Metro area and Miami-Dade County public high schools.
