The School Board of Miami-Dade County has greenlit a $21.6 million renovation and expansion project at Riverside Elementary School, aimed at modernizing the campus and boosting its capacity to better serve the community.
During its regular board meeting, members approved the commissioning of architectural and engineering firm Gurri Matute, P.A., to lead the project. Originally built in 1990, Riverside Elementary spans roughly four acres and currently serves 835 students across two permanent buildings.
The renovation will include the construction of a new 23,387-square-foot building designed to accommodate 396 student stations and a teacher planning office. A covered walkway will link the new building to the existing main building, enhancing connectivity across the campus.
Plans also call for a new ground-level shelter, basketball courts, bleachers, and a scoreboard. Additional improvements include expanded parking and parent drop-off zones, a pedestrian pathway, and a new access/exit road. The project will be rounded out with updated landscaping throughout the site.
Construction is expected to be completed by November 2027.
