The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW), will break ground to mark the start of construction for Phase V of Brownsville Transit Village, a Transit Oriented Community (TOC) development adjacent to the Brownsville Metrorail Station. The ceremony will be held on Monday July 22, 2024 with construction set to begin soon after.
Brownsville Transit Village is a five-phase, 5.2-acre, joint-development project that includes 120 units for families, comprised of 28 studios and 92 one-bedroom units, as well as a community room, fitness center, and onsite laundry facilities. It will also include ground floor retail space. All the Brownsville V units are set aside for extremely low income and low-income families at 30% to 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) and average at 60% AMI. The project is expected to be completed in August 2025.
Brownsville Phase I through IV, completed in 2014, include 401 affordable housing units in four 14-story rental buildings, a 660-space parking garage for tenant use with an additional 100 spaces dedicated for Metrorail riders, and 6,400 sq. ft. of retail space.
County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, along with Miami-Dade County District 5 Commissioner Eileen Higgins, Chair of the Transportation, Mobility and Planning Committee and District 3 Commissioner Keon Hardemon, Project partners Atlantic Pacific Companies (A|P), Mount Sinai Community Development Corporation, and Wells Fargo will be present to celebrate the momentous occasion.
