Six people, including three children, were killed in a fiery head-on collision in Osceola County, Florida, on Saturday afternoon. According to a report from TVJ News in Jamaica, all three adults were Jamaican nationals. The children were U.S. citizens.
Errol Anderson, a resident of Caymanas Gardens in Portmore, St. Catherine, is the father and grandfather of five of the victims. He told TVJ News that his daughters, Andreil and Keiosha, their three children—including a four-month-old infant—and their god-sister, Yahshea Mullings, were traveling in a 2024 Hyundai Tucson when the tragedy occurred. Anderson said the group was on their way to celebrate his three-year-old granddaughter’s birthday.
The crash took place along State Road 60, just west of South Kenansville Road, at approximately 3:46 p.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). Troopers reported that the Hyundai was heading westbound when the driver attempted to overtake several vehicles. While trying to re-enter the westbound lane, the driver reportedly lost control of the SUV, which struck the front of an oncoming 2011 semi-truck with trailer that was heading east.
Both vehicles burst into flames. The impact caused the Hyundai to trap its occupants inside the burning SUV. All six people inside were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to Indian River Hospital for treatment.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
