Jamaican among those arrested in South Florida’s immigration raids

Federal authorities conducted several operations in South Florida on Sunday, resulting in the arrest of suspected undocumented immigrants in Broward County. The operations involved agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Justice. Details of the operations were shared by the agencies through posts on the social media platform X.

The Miami branch of Homeland Security Investigations posted images on Sunday writing, “excellent collaboration” with other federal agencies about enforcing U.S. immigration laws.

The agency also shared that a Jamaican national was arrested during the operations on charges including possession of oxycodone, displaying a firearm during a felony, and driving a vehicle without a valid license.

A Jamaican national was arrested by #ICE @ERO_Miami @HSI_Miami field office in Broward County, Fla., with charges for possession of oxycodone, display of a firearm during felony offense, & operating motor vehicle without a valid license.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, more than 2,600 arrests have been made nationwide, 956 of those arrests happening Sunday.

In addition to the Jamaican, at least one Nicaraguan citizen was arrested who has pending charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, illegal carrying of a weapon, discharging a firearm in public and driving with a suspended license.

The involved agencies have not yet confirmed if the local arrests from Sunday are directly linked to President Donald Trump’s executive order that cracks down on immigration.
