More than 2,000 attendees turned out in full force on Saturday, May 10, for the sixth annual Jamaica Hi-5K Walk/Run, hosted at Miramar Regional Park. Organized by the Jamaica Hi5 Foundation in partnership with the Jamaican Consulate for the Southeastern United States, the event blended movement, music, and meaningful community impact.
Co-hosted by Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam and Consul General Oliver Mair, the event featured reggae music along the course, a lively post-race celebration, and appearances by high-profile supporters including reggae legends Sizzla and Ky-Mani Marley, who came out to show their support for the cause. Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown (VCB), who served as a Race Ambassador alongside Marley, added star power to the day and rewarded the top female finishers with gear from her activewear line, VCB Fit.
The Hi5k isn’t just a South Florida affair—simultaneous races were held in cities across the Southern U.S., including Central Florida, Atlanta, Houston, and Arizona, with a virtual race option for global participants.
The event continues to grow each year, with more families, children in strollers, and wheelchair racers participating in a true display of inclusivity and unity. Local leaders, including the Mayor, Vice Mayor, City Commissioners, and Jamaica’s Consul General, praised the race for its increasing impact and for highlighting the strength of the Jamaican Diaspora.
Proceeds from the race benefit more than five medical clinics in Jamaica, expanding access to healthcare in underserved communities. But for many participants, the event is also about promoting wellness, culture, and connection.
The post-race celebration featured live performances, Caribbean food, and music that kept the spirit of the islands alive throughout the day. From first-time walkers to seasoned runners, the Jamaica Hi-5K continues to inspire people of all ages to move with purpose—and to give back while doing it.
