When driving in downtown West Palm Beach at night, you may wonder why the Historic Palm Beach County Courthouse is lit up with green lights.
On May 2, 2023, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed the month of May as Mental Health Awareness and Trauma Informed Care Month in Palm Beach County.
Green is the national color in support of mental health awareness.
Throughout the month of May, events will occur throughout Palm Beach County as part of the ‘Get Your Green On’ (GYGO) Campaign. The Get Your Green On Campaign aims to raise awareness by creating visible support and fostering safe spaces to talk openly about mental health and trauma.
Thursday, May 18, 2023, is Get Your Green On Day. Take a photo of yourself wearing green and post it to social media with #GYGO and #GYGO2023.
Mental Health is essential to everyone’s overall health and well-being, and everyone experiences times of stress and struggles in their lives. One in four adults and one in five youth ages 13 to 18 experience serious mental illness. Unfortunately, most adults and youth do not receive necessary treatment due to limited knowledge of the need, barriers to care, or simply fear and shame.
It is important to acknowledge that mental health is part of overall health and well-being, and no one should feel stigmatized for seeking help or treatment.
