In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement authorities have apprehended a prime suspect in a murder case that dates back more than two decades ago.
Kareem Jobbar Lightbourne, 47, wanted for his alleged involvement in a tragic incident dating back to December 2002, has been brought into custody in Broward County.
Authorities track down fugitive in the Dominican Republic
After years of pursuit, FBI officials confirmed on Thursday that Kareem Jobbar Lightbourne had been located in the Dominican Republic.
Subsequently, Lightbourne was expelled to the United States due to immigration violations.
Allegations of first-degree murder and kidnapping
The case against Lightbourne stems from a harrowing incident over two decades ago. Authorities allege that in December 2002, Lightbourne perpetrated a heinous act of violence in Lauderhill.
Reportedly, he entered the residence of his ex-girlfriend, Monifa Smith, where he fatally shot 23-year-old Kirk Ennis.
Fatal shooting and kidnapping
Following the fatal shooting, Lightbourne is accused of abducting Monifa Smith and her then-2-year-old son at gunpoint.
Lightbourne managed to evade capture and subsequently fled from Florida.
With his recent arrest, Lightbourne faces a slew of charges, including first-degree murder, armed kidnapping, and grand theft.
He is currently held without bond at the Broward Jail.
