Carpman, 72, operated the Daniel Carpman MD Medical Center, where prosecutors say he issued prescriptions for more than two million doses of maximum-strength, immediate-release oxycodone. The pills were dispensed to patients who, in turn, resold them to drug distributors, according to evidence presented at trial.

The jury convicted Carpman on five felony counts—one count of conspiracy to distribute opioids and four counts of unlawful dispensing and distribution of controlled substances. He now faces up to 20 years in prison on each count. Following the verdict, Carpman was taken into custody. His sentencing is scheduled for June 22, 2025, before United States District Court Judge Melissa Damian.

The conviction was announced by U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida, along with Acting Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles of the FBI’s Miami Field Office and Acting Special Agent in Charge Jesus Barranco of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, Miami Regional Office.

Senior Litigation Counsel Christopher J. Clark and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Thor Pogozelski led the prosecution, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole S. Grosnoff is handling the asset forfeiture component of the case.
