Former Miami-Dade track star Olivier Alexandre sentenced to 20 years in federal prison

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A former Miami-Dade track and field athlete, Olivier Ricardy Alexandre, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on Tuesday. This followed his attempt to shoot a man on his front porch and a confrontation with a tow truck driver, where he brandished a gun, just one week apart. Alexandre, 28, had pleaded guilty to possession of ammunition and a firearm, as well as possession of both as a convicted felon, according to a release from the Department of Justice.

U.S. District Court Judge David S. Leibowitz sentenced Alexandre on January 3, 2025, to 20 years in federal prison, adding 105 months to his sentence due to the severity of his crimes.

The sentencing came after Alexandre had been placed on probation in Kentucky for marijuana trafficking less than a month earlier. On March 13, 2023, investigators said he fired 18 rounds at a man entering his Miami-Dade home. This violent act, along with his earlier confrontation with a tow truck driver, led to his federal charges and conviction.

Forensic analysis conducted by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office revealed that shell casings from the March 13, 2023, shooting linked the weapon to three prior shootings, including one in October 2022 in which the same victim had been shot.

On March 21, 2023, Plantation police were surveilling Olivier Ricardy Alexandre’s home when he confronted a tow truck driver attempting to repossess a vehicle. During the encounter, Alexandre brandished a handgun with an extended magazine before being arrested at the scene. These incidents led to his federal charges and subsequent 20-year prison sentence.
