A Florida teenager who fatally shot his parents, later died during a standoff with law enforcement.
The incident unfolded late Saturday night in Tampa, Florida, when authorities responded to a distressing 911 call made by the teenager’s mother moments before her demise.
The situation began with a distressing 911 call made by the mother, who reported that her husband had been shot.
During the call, dispatchers heard additional gunfire, prompting an urgent response from the local police.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered 19-year-old Christos Alexander Themelis Jr. and his mother, Rebecca, outside their home.
The situation quickly escalated when Christos Jr. shot his mother and then opened fire on the deputies.
Standoff and outcome
In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Christos Jr. retreated back inside the house. The standoff ended when deputies entered the home to find him deceased.
The parents were identified as Rebecca Ann Themelis, aged 48, and Christos Byron Themelis, aged 51.
Aftermath and recovery
The incident resulted in injuries to one of the deputies, who sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.
He has since undergone surgery and is reported to be in stable condition.
