Parts of the western Florida Panhandle experienced a brief dusting of snow on Sunday morning, marking the second consecutive year the Sunshine State has seen winter flakes. Frigid air rushing in behind a cold front turned the last rain showers into snow, leaving a light coating on grass and rooftops.
The snowfall was fleeting and too light to stick to roads, but it was enough to prompt photos of snow-covered palm fronds and frosty lawns to flood social media. Less than a year ago, on January 21, 2025, the same areas saw up to eight inches of snow—the heaviest in many places since the late 1800s.
Snow wasn’t limited to Florida. Parts of southeastern Alabama and southern Georgia also reported snow, with cities such as Columbus and Macon, Georgia, experiencing enough accumulation to prompt travel warnings. Residents across the region enjoyed a brief glimpse of a second winter wonderland in under a year.
